Zella Lou turned two weeks old yesterday. This morning she had her two week check-up and other than getting over some pink eye, is doing well. She is already up more than a pound from when she was born, weighing in at 9lbs 9oz. This girl loves to eat.
I could stare at her all day and usually do. She is just perfect with an added extra digit.
Right after Zella was placed in my arms, the doctor immediately said “oh, she has an extra digit!” We were informed that this is fairly common and usually hereditary, even though Nathan and I don’t know of any family members who have had anything similar.
After talking through our options for dealing with Zella’s “tag” as her big sister refers to it, we decided to make an appointment for a consult with a plastic surgeon.
The other option is to tie off blood flow to the digit (which has a fingernail but no bones…it is more like a skin tag) until it falls off on its own.
We are still weighing all options but are hoping that our consultation next week will give us all the information we need to make the right decision.
I really don’t want this to be something she has to do deal with the rest of her life, but I also don’t want to put her at any unnecessary risk with a surgery.
So there you have it, our little lady is definitely a Carmel born baby. Two weeks old and already seeing the plastic surgeon.
In all seriousness, we are praying that everything goes well.
